You might have noticed something different about google.com this morning. Instead of it’s usual white background, the home page is all in black. earthhourlogo300x293.jpg

“Google users in the United States will notice today that we ‘turned the lights out’ on the Google.com homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. As to why we don’t do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. However, you can do something to reduce the energy consumption of your home PC by joining the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.”

How does this all affect yoga? Well how about yoga by candle light?

“Several yoga studios are offering classes by candlelight. The Yoga Sanctuary’s Danforth location will hold a class with live music. The cost is $40, with 10 per cent of the proceeds going to Trees for the Future.

Big Stretch Yoga Centre on Bayview Ave. will hold a class by candlelight and donate the proceeds to WWF.

Fireflow Yoga at 172 Eglinton Ave. E. is planning a similar event. Various locations of Moksha Yoga have scheduled special classes.

‘The little things make a big difference,’ says Don Christensen, studio director of Moksha Yoga on Bloor St. W. It will host a class with live music. ‘There are cultures who are used to brownouts … we’ve just been kind of spoiled with 24/7 electricity. It’s really not a big deal at all to shut it off for one hour.’” Read more
